Story Behind The Song = "One Day"
A while back, I (Danny) was hanging at Smith Street Studios with JB. As he inclined to do, he casually prefaced sharing a new song he had recently written: 'So, check this out,' he said, perched on the bench in front of the Steinway in his studio.
The song he played is titled 'One Day' and on the spot it became one of my favorites that he has written. 'That,' I said, 'must become a Perennial.' And so it did.
Here's what JB had to say about the tune:
'I wrote this song for a friend who went through a painful break-up many years ago. She had blocked out a lot of the memories, and I started to question if she would even recognize the man if she saw him again. I wondered, could two ex-lovers -- who were at one time passionately devoted -- someday encounter each other without remembering, or even noticing? There's something impossibly tragic and poignant about that...to think that they spent such an important time in their lives together, and now they can't even recognize the other's face: Nothing left to mark our fall / The greatest years become so small / One day I won't recognize you at all'
